Students' Exhibition of 2006 Shanghai Biennial

As a part of exhibition of the Shanghai Biennial, the Students` Exhibition of the Shanghai Biennial gives young designers a platform to touch the essence of the truth of the thinking, and facing the future of design from a fresh perspective. Under a social meaning to view design creation, a hypothesis is formed by asking the following questions: What will happen if we think about different design objects as a whole? What will we achieve if we pay more attention on those things that beyond those material things? Are the fruits of design only related with beautiful, unique and endless artificial objects making? How should we conduct the relationship between artificial objects and objects, objects and human? How should we orientate cultural identity in the practice of reality? …etc. A critical thinking to our reality is always an initiation to approaching the significant creation.

2006 Liverpool Biennal

Liverpool and Shanghai are twin cities. Both stage concurrent international art biennials, and this exhibition by UK artists, being shown during the 2006 Shanghai Biennale, is expected to be the start of an ongoing process of dialogue and exchange between the visual arts in the two cities.

The UK artists selected are based in Merseyside, North Wales and London and all have a relationship to the city of Liverpool. They have been chosen in response to the Shanghai Biennale’s theme of HyperDesign.
