Matts Leiderstam has been investigating the portrait and landscape painting tradition of 18th and 19th century Europe, which he repositions and recontextualises through his works. With exhibitions since the early 1990s, he has had many solo and group shows, and his work has also been shown in several biennales. He has a doctorate with his artistic work from Malmö Art Academy, where he now teaches. He published his doctoral dissertation as CD-Rom and a web publication, See and Seen—Seeing Landscape through Artistic Practice, Malmö Art Academy (2006).
