Artist & Work
b. 1978, Gawler, Bidjara People
Christian Bumbarra Thompson (Dr.) made history when he became the first Aboriginal Australian to be admitted, in 2010, into the University of Oxford in its 900-year history. In his works, which explore notions of identity, cultural hybridity, and history, he becomes a range of personas through carefully orchestrated poses, costuming, and settings. His works are held in major international and national collections, and he has exhibited widely, including in London, Oxford, Valencia, Sharjah, Derby, Bangkok, and the Biennale of Sydney. Born in 1978, he lives between London and Melbourne.
